WWII Uprisings

One of a few monuments to the Warsaw Uprising (the 2nd one)
There were two major uprisings in Warsaw during WWII. The first was the Jewish Ghetto Uprising, in April, 1943. Completely outnumbered and basically unarmed, the last survivors gave their all for 3 full months, and eventually took their own lives once defeat was truly imminent. 7,000 died in this battle, 6,000 perished in the bombing runs. Over 400,000 Jews from the area perished (30% of Warsaw's pop.), either here, or in the death camps. What little was left of the ghetto, was razed to the ground. More on the 2nd Uprising later...
