PW, this was the final stronghold of the Warsaw Uprising (the 2nd one). It's an 18th century bank that the People's Army held fast for several months. The property is still being disputed but the public fought hard to turn it into a museum honoring this little known (or often confused with the Jewish Uprising) battle. Apparently, whoever owns it now is restoring the upper, missing, stories, and leaving the exploded and shell-shot facades intact, as a reminder for all generations to see what a few thousand brave Poles tried to protect.
