Via Ferrata trailhead poster/billboard/route map. A via ferrata (iron way) is a human-made mass of cables, wires, ladders, steps, rungs, posts, pipes, zip lines, etc. attached to rocks and mountains to help people get through them more easily and quickly. First built during WWI to aid in battle...now used (and re-built) for pure adrenaline and fitness freaks (us!). Notice the large gap in the lower image...and scroll down a few pics for the real thing! Gulp!
