Parts of the church's ceiling pieced back together. The interior was a museum loaded with historic pics, models and history covering the span of the 109 years of the church. The most impressive pic was the congregation still holding service, with 3/4 of the church blown to smithereens around them!

Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtniskirche, absolutely annihilated by the allies in the bombing raids (this one by the Brits, Nov. 22, 1943), and left as a memorial. The church used to be 5 times the size of this remaining tower, and the new tower to the right is a more (ugly) blue glass modern memorial tower

The Reichstag dome, by Sir Norman Foster. The line was way too long to get into this free, famous site of Berlin :-(

This city is doomed if the Spree floods like '02 in Prague!

About to head into Jutka's friends art gallery opening

The Trojan Horse

The Republican National Committee announced today that the Republican party is changing its emblem from an elephant to a condom. The committee chairman explained that the condom more clearly reflects the party's stance today, because a condom accepts inflation, halts production, destroys the next generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sense of security while you're actually getting screwed.

Vote (for me!)

Happy (or unhappy) Post Election Day.

The good news is that Kelly and I made it to Berlin, and got an exit stamp from Poland and an entry stamp to Germany. The bad news is that on the return trip the Germans didn't bother stamping us out, and the Poles broke their stamper while trying to mark Kelly's passport-and they didn't bother with mine. So I'm here and they don't know it!
(Actually, they swipe your passports through a handy machine, so I'm sure that documents our travels in a database in the depths of the Palace of Culture & Science.) I was past 90 days before, and the guard eyed the computer a long while before he gave me back my passport. But I am back here in Polska land, and a good bit less stressed now (regarding my visa, that is!)

Berlin was cool, and another huge thanks goes out to Mikael and his well-placed friends situated around Poland! And they're all such good friends! Charlie, who's from Issaquah, Washington, and his wife Jutka, who's Romanian, were wonderful hosts! They live in former East Berlin in a flat from 1910, gave us tours, tips and were just plain wonderful people to spend a few days with. The hysterical couple has lived in Berlin for two years, and previously lived in Munich (Munchen). They love Berlin as a city, but they love Munich for it's beauty and proximity to the mountains of Bavaria. The two of them met several years ago ('95?) when Charlie was teaching English in Romania. Jutka (Yute-ka) has razor sharp wit, which is even more comical with her occasional use of incorrect English vocabulary.
I'm looking forward to their first visit to Warsaw, where I can repay their hospitality.

So, are you frustrated with flip-floppers, stay-the-coursers, and vote-frauderers? Me, too. And until we have a true, final counted tally of our great American election of '04, here's a much less contested election:

Vote for GoJeronimo's best pictures!

Yep, I've uploaded tons of shots since leaving the States for the beautiful spot across the Atlantic known as Poland.

So why vote?
To relieve frustrations and know that this time your vote will really be counted and have merit-for something truly good! No electoral college to mess with, and no media circus. Just pure votes. I've added several pics over time that aren't obvious, and were squeezed in other pics and stories. This will give you a chance to catch up, too, and see more of what central Europe is offering Jill and I.
My 'real' website is on its way...and some general 'best of' pics will be featured.
Make your picks, and maybe your winner will make it this time!
So scroll on down (and down and down and down and down) and click to enlarge a few shots if they catch your eye.

To make your painless vote, click 'comment' below this thread.
You don't even have to register!

Good luck!

(oh, Berlin picks still to come-gotta go plan for my lesson tonight!)
